CANTON, Conn. — Canton resident and Avon elementary library media specialist Angela Antonelli received two honors in the 2026 Tassy Walden Awards (https://www.shorelinearts.org/copy-of-tassy-walden-award-announce) for New Voices in Children's Literature, a Connecticut competition for emerging creators of children's books.
Antonelli earned Honorable Mention in the fiction picture book category and was also named a Finalist in the nonfiction picture book category.
Presented by Shoreline Arts Alliance, the Tassy Walden Awards provide unpublished writers and illustrators with the opportunity to have their work evaluated by professionals in the children's publishing industry. The 2026 judging panel included children's literary agents and editors from leading publishing houses and literary agencies. Entries are evaluated on literary merit, originality, and potential for publication.
Antonelli serves as a library media specialist in Avon Public Schools, where she works with elementary students to foster literacy, research skills, and a lifelong appreciation for reading. Her interest in children's literature extends beyond the school library to writing picture books for young readers.
The awards were presented during the 2026 Tassy Walden Awards recognition ceremony on June 9, 2026.
