Author vs. Illustrator: a visit from Donald Lemke and Bob Lentz

For the CT Summer Story Project, we asked library staff to write and illustrate stories inspired by their communities. To cap it all off we'll have a Zoom visit from two creators who made a picture book all about collaboration, Author vs. Illustrator.

This laugh-out-loud story about the not-so-simple process of creating a picture book is sure to be a hit with your kids or students. Full of over-the-top humor and under-the-radar lessons -- including the skills of teamwork, conflict resolution, and respect -- this book is a must-have for young writers, budding artists, librarians, teachers, and lifelong book lovers.

This event is presented in partnership with Capstone, CT Humanities, and CT Center for the Book.

Donald Lemke & Bob Lentz

Lemke & Lentz are two dads on a mission to power imagination, play, and belly-laughter without a single battery!

Donald Lemke is an award-winning writer of comics and books for young readers. He lives in St. Paul, Minnesota with his amazing wife, Amy, and their three growing-up-way-too-fast daughters.

Bob Lentz is an art director, designer, and illustrator of many books for kids. Bob lives in Bloomington, Minnesota, with his wife, Rosalee, and their two children (and a very hungry Boston terrier).

CT Summer Story Project

Every person has a story to tell, and The CT Summer Story Project has invited public libraries to share theirs, in partnership with colleagues, community members, and middle grade writing groups! Six public libraries across the state of Connecticut have written stories about libraries, local legends, and state landmarks. The stories contain nature, giants, wishes, and princes.

From June 22- July 27, every Monday a new short story will be released with accompanying discussion questions and activities.

To support the program, we have also provided a list of gardening resources containing the libraries that have seed libraries, community gardens, gardening tools to borrow, and host a farmers' market.

And don't forget, reading a story from the CT Summer Story Project is an activity option on the Governor's Summer Learning Challenge Form!
