Hi everyone, as we are getting ready for the school year I am curious about what other lower elementary school librarians do for their library lessons.

I teach at a PreK-3rd Grade School and have 40 minute library classes.

This is what I do:

1 - Greet students at the door

2 - Students sanitize hands and find a paw print to sit on in the teaching area

3 - I take attendance

4 - Hello song in sign language and in Spanish

5 - Review library expectations. In grades 1 - 3 I have volunteers come up to the smart board to use the pointer and read the rules while the class repeats after them.

6 - Joke of the day or guess the book title from the emojis

7 - Book Talks - I talk about a book I read and where they can find it in the library. I ask for 2 or 3 volunteers to talk about a book they liked and why

8 - Movement Break

9 - Songs with puppets for the younger grades

10 - Yoga Breaths

11 - Teach library lesson/ read a related book

12 - Review how to use a shelf marker

13 - Review library book check out routine

14 - Students look for and check out books

15 - If there is remaining time students can color, build, or read books at the library tables.

16 - I ring a bell and the students clean up and line up by the stairs to the door
