Hi Jenna,

I would catalog them with manga because our graphic novel/manga section is extremely popular with our students. That said, I’d look at who your target audience is and where they’ll get the most traction. Maybe put special labels to note the genre and manga/graphic novel, then you can move them back and forth based on browsing.

I’m running out of space on our graphic novel/manga section also.  I’ve been purchasing the Demco acrylic series holders to help make more space. You could also try that or a book bin in that section labeled “Light Novels”.

Thank you for posting this question, I had to look-up what a light novel is and now I have some series I’m interested in purchasing.

Take care,
Jessica

Hi all-

Where do you shelve light novels in a genrified high school library?

I’m starting to get requests for light novels—some tied to manga/anime, others adapted from webcomics or web novels. Since I don't have the space or budget to purchase a lot of these or to create a standalone light novel section, I’m debating between two options:

  1. Adding the few titles into our existing Manga/Graphic Novel section.

  2. Shelving them within their corresponding prose genre sections (e.g., Fantasy, Sci-Fi).

How do you handle these in your space, and what works best for student discovery?
