Apply today to be on a Nutmeg Selection Committee!

Calling All School and Public Librarians: Help Choose the Next Nutmeg Nominees!

The Nutmeg Selection Committees are seeking librarians to help select the
2029 Nutmeg Book Award Nominees. Committee members will begin meeting in early 2027 and work together throughout the calendar year to create a diverse and engaging list of books for young readers across Connecticut to enjoy during the 2028–2029 school year before voting for their favorites in April 2029.

Librarians from all types of libraries are encouraged to apply! Your experience and perspective are valuable in creating nominee lists that reflect young readers' wide range of interests and experiences across the state.

Applications are open October 15–November 15.
Invite students to join the Nutmeg experience!

Student readers are at the heart of the Nutmeg Selection Committees, and their voices are essential to the selection process!

If you know a student who would be excited to serve on the Intermediate, Middle School, or High School Selection Committees, please share the appropriate application below. Encourage them to review the requirements carefully before applying. It's a challenging but incredibly rewarding opportunity to help select the 2029 Nutmeg Book Award Nominees!
Intermediate Student Application (Grades 6 & 7)
Intermediate Recommendation Form
Middle School Student Application (Grades 7, 8 & 9)
Middle School Recommendation Form
High School Student Application (Grades 9, 10 & 11)
High School Recommendation Form
Please note that we do not accept applications from high school seniors and that the Elementary Nutmeg Award Selection Committee does not include student readers.

Recommendation Form

Every student applying to serve on a committee must have a recommendation from a teacher or librarian. Instead of a letter, we ask the teacher or librarian to complete a recommendation form. See above.

Join a Nutmeg Selection Committee!

Teachers and librarians play an important role in selecting the 2029 Nutmeg Book Award Nominees! If you're interested in serving on a committee, review the requirements at the top of the application to understand the commitment, and select your preferred committee when applying.

Book Nominee Concerns:

Selecting the books for the Nutmeg Book Award is a long and challenging process that includes the input of librarians, educators, and students from across the state.  We understand that these selections may not match the preference of every individual, but hope that encouraging reading across all ages and interests stays at the forefront of this Award.  Should you have concerns about a title, please contact the appropriate committee chairs.  The Nutmeg Book Award Selection Committee Chairs can be found here: Committee Members Directory.
