PHIP Board and MOTM Team Approve Health and Safety Plan To Get Parrot Heads Back on Our Phins Again!

At its meeting on August 22nd, the five members of the PHIP Board unanimously adopted a proposal of the MOTM21 Team to go forward with the event, adopting the outline of a MOTM21 Health and Safety Screening Protocol to ensure that the event is held in as safe a manner as is practical. This protocol is similar to that adopted by national event promoters LiveNation and AEG for outdoor festivals and concerts. It goes without saying that we cannot eliminate the inherent risks of travel and gathering, and everyone must make the personal decisions regarding assumption of risk, but our screening and health protocol will seek to reduce the risk and will include the following:

1. Every attendee, including musicians, press and vendors must produce a negative COVID PCR or antigen test reported within the 72 hours prior to registration. Such tests are widely available at no charge per federal law. This requirement will be WAIVED for those who voluntarily submit proof of full vaccination - evidence that the second of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or the single-shot J&J vaccine was administered two weeks or more prior to registration. We will shortly announce a procedure for clearing the process of vaccination proof IN ADVANCE of the event to simplify and expedite your registration process.

2. Temperature Check at EACH ENTRY to the premises. We will be working with local health officials to set a temperature cutoff point and follow up procedures for any temperature screen which raises concern.

3. Hand sanitizing stations will be situated around the grounds.

4. Guests are asked to isolate immediately if experiencing symptoms of COVID19.

5. Masked Staff. The Casa Marina Hotel has agreed that staff members interacting with guests will be masked. The Hilton Corporation does not require COVID vaccination or screening of its employees at this time. We are working with the Casa to ensure s safe staff, including the prospect of staff being able to voluntarily submit to our screening processes as an alternative to mandatory masking.

The PHIP Board and MOTM team join the city of Key West in strongly urging all who plan to travel to Key West to get vaccinated. This is not only the best way to reduce risk to ourselves, each other and the host community, but it is also the best way to simplify the screening process and the work of our volunteers.

This plan will be further detailed and supplemented as we get closer to the event. Please note that these protocols apply to the "official" Meeting of the Minds event and will differ for the Wednesday and Sunday programs which are open to non-registrants. All of these measures are subject to adjustment based on changing conditions and data and also on local law and regulation. We intend to work with the leaders and health officials of our beloved host city, and to the best of our ability, be respectful of and responsive to their requests of us, whether or not their requests have the force of law.

The Art of the Co-Write: A Preview
We at PHIP and MOTM are super excited about our MOTM Convention Guide and Program this year,  a content-rich quality publication and keepsake that will be provided to every MOTM registrant. This is made possible by the writing and production team of The Mango, an absolutely gorgeous subscription-based bi-monthly magazine for people like us. Visualize the best print publication for beach and music loving escapists you can imagine. Now add two helpings of greatness and a dessert. That's The Mango. And yeah, it's that good. And we are grateful that they are sharing some of that greatness with us as an MOTM21 sponsor. Check them out, and subscribe today!

One of the articles in the program is called "The Art of the Co-Write," and is based on this gently edited 40-minute Zoom interview with songwriters and MOTM scheduled performers Donny Brewer, Eric Erdman, Aubrey Wollett and Erica Sunshine Lee.
