I was wondering if anyone had any input on Rapid urine drug screening (I-cup) onsite collection and testing versus collecting the specimen and sending to a testing lab. There is a significant cost savings by only sending the "NON-Negatives" to the lab for testing. Is there any regulation or requirements that I would need to be concerned with if I handled ALL of my new hire screens the same way.

I wanted to announce to the group that I am retiring my Health and Safety Position at Marshfield Clinic. I plan to continue to get this list at my home, so I will at least be able to keep up with all the fascinating issues the group discusses.
I wanted to express my great appreciation for all the information the group has provided over the years. Having this group to bounce things off of has really assisted me in the development of programs for my facility.

That is what we do. We use Cal-stat, but it's a rapid results drug screen and we use an adulteration strip to validate it hasn't been altered, and of course check the temp. We consider all this negative and only send out the non-negative for the Cal-stat (drugs) or if the adulteration strip is out of range (usually this one is specific gravity).

You need to know your state labor laws. Not every state allows rapid drugscreen testing on new hires.?
This was the case for me when I worked in NC...

</div>I was wondering if anyone had any input on Rapid urine drug screening (I-cup) onsite collection and testing versus collecting the specimen and sending to a testing lab. There is a significant cost savings by only sending the "NON-Negatives" to the lab for testing. Is there any regulation or requirements that I would need to be concerned with if I handled ALL of my new hire screens the same way.

Bruce,
Congratulations on the retirement. Could you possibly re-sent the EMR survey results you did? I would really appreciate it.

Subject: [MCOH-EH] Retirement
I wanted to announce to the group that I am retiring my Health and Safety Position at Marshfield Clinic. I plan to continue to get this list at my home, so I will at least be able to keep up with all the fascinating issues the group discusses.
I wanted to express my great appreciation for all the information the group has provided over the years. Having this group to bounce things off of has really assisted me in the development of programs for my facility.
