We send to an independent medical provider who reviews their information... what they take, when they take it, why they take it, who is managing it etc. The applicant is asked to provide consent for the provider to speak with the prescriber to determine what procedures they are using to manage their use.
If taking this for pain it should be prescribed from a pain management specialist who has rigor to their program.

Thank you for your email.

Kindest regards,

Terri

Can you elaborate of medical assessment? I was just wondering about the random screens because a lot of what this candidate said did not make sense to me. Such as "I get my methadone from a meth clinic because it is cheaper" I spoke with our local methadone clinic and they said it is not cheaper and if it is it would only be a few cents cheaper. The candidate spoke of a history of using Dilaudid and switched to methadone because she wants to get pregnant. The need for a medical assessment sounds like a good idea I am just wondering what all your medical assessment entails. Thanks for your response

At Cincinnati Children's we require the person to have a medical assessment to be cleared working on this drug.

If cleared to work we ask the manager to watch them carefully. We do not do random drug screens.

Thank you for your email.

We have a candidate for hire which is a known methadone user. This candidate does have a legal prescription for the drug but it makes me nervous. We are considering doing random drug screens for a period of time just to be assured that this person is not taking anything not prescribed. The candidate relates that the methadone is prescribed for severe pain and has been on it for the past year. Any thoughts and past experiences with this would be greatly appreciated.
