[MCOH-EH] Flu Vaccine for Next Year

Just met with our team. Our ID doc explained that research did not show any difference between Tri and Quad, and as you mentioned neither CDC or ASPC recommended one of the other, so we’re going with Tri as it’s less expensive and Sandofi’s delivery date expectations were poor.

(We had a horrible time this last year just trying to get any of the Quad, whereas our one hospital that ordered the Tri got all of their doses on time.)

Also research showed that the High dose should only be given to those over 65 with co-morbidities, but that group also had the higher side effects and warned about extrapolating the one study to the masses.

It was interesting to note, that for those that got the flu despite the flu shots, that you could not identify which strain they had because of the immune response from the shot.

This is my understanding and hope that helps.

Thank you,

We have used quadrivalent for the past two years and plan to do the same this coming year. We are not doing high dose

After a brief online search, it appears that neither the CDC nor APIC are recommending the quadrivalent flu vaccine over the trivalent vaccine for adults for the coming year. I saw no recommendation specific to HCWs. I did read that about 50% of the doses to be produced for next year will be quadrivalent.

I’m wondering what people are planning to order for next year.

□ Trivalent?
X Quadrivalent?
□ Fluzone High Dose for those over 65??
