[MCOH-EH] Vanish Point needle/syringe sets

At Stanford we changed to Vanishpoint only for the 1ml syringes (including the insulin syringe). We did actualize a 40% decrease in injuries on the floors associated with this size syringe.  We found that activating the safety on the 1 ml BD syringe put the users finger right at the point of the needle.  Instructions are that you are supposed to visualize the safety when activating it on the BD, but our observations were that clinicians were activating the safety while not looking. This resulting in injuries occurring with safety activation.  We have kept BD as our vendor for all other syringes. They do have a retractable syringe option in sizes other than the 1 ml.

We have not; use the BD retractable butterflies...could not get the Vanish Point in the UC wide contracts we have with Novation.

Subject: [MCOH-EH] Vanish Point needle/syringe sets

We took a look at the Vanish Point needle/syringe sets yesterday.  Seems to be a promising way to reduce needlesticks.  Nurse mgrs who looked at them liked them, except for their IV setup.
Most of their products involve a springloaded retractor or other mechanism that pulls the needle back into the barrel of the syringe.  They have many sizes, including insulin and tuberculin.
Sales rep said that hospitals that have used their products have had substantial reductions in their BBFEs.
He dropped a bunch of names of health systems currently using the Vanish Point products but wondering if anyone who is on the List has had any experience with them.
