When I worked for Kettering Memorial Hospital, we did physical abilities testing on all environmental services workers. A P.T. developed the tests after shadowing several workers and measuring force and weight. Two hospitals and two extended care facilities and an assisted living facility. Statistically, we were able to prove that my areas of responsibility had a lower injury rate then the other network hospitals. However, when we aligned our practices across the network, I was out voted, even though I had 6500 of the 10000 employees. That was back in about 2010. Before I left, we were seeing higher rates of injuries in that group. My predecessor had wanted to add nurses to that group, but was not supported by Nursing Administration. We did start a lift Team as there was not a change in Nursings opinion during my tenure.
