I, too, would love to see the reference for this.  If the baby is 0-6 months, we test the mother.  But I have not been able to locate the citation that directs this.

We do as well unless...that baby had some procedure or blood product etc... that impacts the accuracy for the situation

I am attempting to locate a source that can define how long after a baby is delivered can (or should) the mother be used for the blood source if the infant was the "source" to which the employee was exposed .

Does this change in cases where micro preemies are involved (under 1 kg).  Our current practice is to draw the mother for up to one month, but the practice has been ongoing for so long, I am unable to locate a source and need to update the policy.

Here is one I put together for our organization as well as the NYS guidelines algorithm.  I have it laminated and posted on all inpatient units. It follows NYS guidelines. I hope this helps!
