[MCOH-EH] light or restricted duty

Absolutely no wage change! The work comp light duty is offered to keep the employee engaged and back to work quickly. Lowering the wage may be possible but really send a very poor message to the employee affected and others who work with them. We do pay them for the hours worked at their normal wage. Also there are regulations for salaried employees that you must pay them that wage while they are on light duty. Work comp light duty is a short term program, 90 days in our case, that most people who utilize it are on les than half of the allowed time.
Why is it that we have to impress upon executives how important it is to do the right thing! Why would you do that to an employee who has been injured while work for you? We are all dealing with ways to cut our budgets but quite frankly the fact that you would consider compounding a work injury with reduction in pay seems like a double slap in the face.

Marilyn - do you keep their wage the same or are adjustments made based on the light duty they are doing? We have a new VP who wants to adjust wages and I just wanted to get a consensus on what others do. Thanks for your response.

Thank you. Have a great day!!

We try to keep them in their original department and working their usual hours. If there manager does not have any work for them to do then we place them in another department. We have a light duty cost center that they clock into so technically the injured employee is free help to the department.

CAUTION: EXTERNAL EMAIL

For those of you that do workers comp, how are you handling light or restricted duty. Do they continue to work in their original department or do you put them in a pool and triage them to light or restricted duties throughout the facility?

Thank you. Have a great day!!
