WE rotate our staff taking call for any type of exposure.  We guide staff, via phone, and counsel,  on getting the source patient blood and send to lab for testing,  and follow up employee the next business day.  If source patient would happen to be + for HIV, we would route our employee to ER for getting started on anti-retrovirals.

Does anyone find it a struggle to get the employees to follow up with EH the following day?  That's where we are running into trouble, they do not want to come in and it can sometimes take weeks to get them to come in, if at all

We utilize the hospital Emergency Department.  They have the paperwork/report packets. They also draw the labs, etc.  Employees are to follow up with Employee Health the next business day.

Our nursing supervisors have packets that we make up with all the appropriate paperwork, consents, and lab slips to process an after-hours exposure. We follow-up first thing the next business day.

I am looking to see what other people have for a process after blood borne pathogen exposures.  What is your process to get the exposed staff's baseline HIV and Hep C labs done during off hours when OccMed is closed?
