We have someone from our office that takes call for after hours and weekends. We rotate the call between the RN staff to manage the OUCH (BBF) calls or any questions relating to any other exposure.

I am new to Occupational Health nursing. I'd like to see what other hospitals are doing to report and manage exposures such as BBP, Varicella, etc. We have packets that our employees fill out. They are directed to go to Occupational Health or Supervisor (if after hours), but out packets don't seem user friendly.

Also, do any of you have patients sign a consent on admit that in the event of employee BBP exposure, they would consent to lab testing. It seems that if we had a consent up front, that would be one less step in the event that an employee suffers an exposure AND this would be helpful if an exposure occurred during surgery or recovery when a patient is unable to consent.
