To clarify the individual thought they were having latex allergic response to latex paint fumes.  Latex paint is made from synthetic compounds (for many years now) and doesn't contain any latex rubber protein so no risk for a latex reaction.  Any reactions would be due to chemical compounds in the paint fumes.    Because it's still called Latex paint people think it has latex and maybe there is paint out there that still has latex but I've not seen it.

We do screen for latex allergy.  We are a latex free facility and have not had any issues.   (Not sure about the paint...something to check out!)

Hello All,

Recently had issue regarding  worker with history of anaphylactic reaction to latex.  This situation was regarding maintenance (painting; using O VOC's latex) in hallway outside clinical area.  Individual had another entry/exit route to use but was also able to switch with another worker in another clinic for the day.

My questions:  Do you screen your employees, staff and travelers for latex allergy, and if so what precautions do you have for preventing their exposure to latex.
