We handle such cases the same way at DH, with an initial FFD assessment in OccMed and if the employee is a danger to themselves or others they are taken to the ED for a psych evaluation.

Hi Ron
We handled such cases when I was at Baystate and UMass with an initial assessment(FFD) in EHS. If it was opined the employee was a danger to themselves or others, they were taken to the ED for a psych evaluation. If they refused we would have to section 12 them(Massachusetts) and call an ambulance. Most of the times the employee was cooperative.
I hope this helps.

We don’t have policies that address specific mental health issues. My practice would be to refer them to a provider and follow-up recommendations for restrictions/accomdations.

Good morning colleagues,
I have just join the MCOH Section and listserv, because I have a new job in Phoenix. One of the first issues that came across my desk was a hospital employee expressing suicidal ideation. Does anyone have a policy that addresses this subject, so that I can build on it to provide my health system with one thath suits their needs. Thank you and I look forward to meeting all of you in Washington.
Ron
