[MCOH-EH] On-site drug testing

Another question for the group - how are you handling drug screening of remote workers? Specifically asking about cases where there has been a concern raised of possible impairment/reasonable suspicion. This has not come up at our organization yet, but we suspect it might in the near future.

Thank you for your input!

I would agree with the comments below. We also use escreen/x-cup w/ mostly quick turnaround. And interestingly also have had issues with a greater than 3 week specimen from Quest lab for an expanded HCP panel. As a result I looked into testing through escreen/Alere and found a comparable panel which we can collect as a send out. Haven't tried it yet but hoping for better outcome and prefer a third party MRO. We continue to test for THC, while legal in CA we have federal contracts as I imagine we all do through CMS.

Very timely discussion for me, Craig - thank you for initiating! We have been doing the same.

1. On-site drug testing works well for us in our internal department. We use EScreen with xcups and get results quickly for most.

2. We are struggling with HCW panels, not because of problems with testing (we have a great process that supports 24 hour testing, if needed), but with lab turnaround. MedTox has been taking longer than 3 weeks to return results recently. Trying to decide if we should change panels or change labs. We currently have a large panel that includes propofol as an add-on at request of anesthesia and our residency programs. Interested to hear what others are using.

3. THC is not legal here, but the organization is struggling to hire workers into some positions because of positive THC tests. There is a desire to discuss whether we should remove THC from the test panels.

Greetings everyone.

We are in the proces of reviewing our pre-placement drug testing process and test panel, and I would appreciate a discussion about:

1. Advantages and challenges related to on-site drug testing?

2. HCW drug testing panels?

3. In states in which recreational marijuana is legal, are you continuing to test for THC?

Thank you in advance for sharing your opinions and experience.
