[MCOH-EH] COVID Vaccine for HCWs

We are probably going to mandate COVID-19 vaccination.  Currently our overall vaccination rate is in the high 70s with physicians at 96%.  We are developing medical and religious exemption criteria considering potential issues with each vaccine.  Religious accommodation requests mainly relate to known characteristic of the current approved vaccines and their production methods, so that is pretty well established.

For the medical exemptions we would prefer to wait and see if there are additional medical concerns at the time of full FDA approval and associated ACIP recommendations.  If there is likely to be a substantial delay in full approval of any vaccine, we will probably get an internal consensus on reasonable medical exemptions.

Agree. When I read the NYT article yesterday from my news feed I saw most major medical organization and some very minor ones supporting an opinion but nowhere to be found was a statement or opinion from ACOEM. It was as if we were vapor. My own department is trying to prepare for this and it would be good to hear from others how they are planning to manage COVID declinations.

You may have seen the recent joint statement on worker COVID vaccination mandates for HCWs. Shouldn’t ACOEM have been in the lead on this? Does anyone else find it sad that we’re not even following? Where are we on this? We should at least start a conversation...
