What still is unknown is whether the unfiltered exhaust air from the CAPR is potentially more hazardous than the exhaled air from the wearer of a surgical mask.  I believe that study of N95s with exhaust valves showed that they offer much better source control than surgical masks, but far inferior than N95s without valves.  The missing variables includes the probability of the HCW using respiratory protection having an unrecognized COVID-19 infection.  I'm not sure that that risk supports not using any particular type of respirator.

Is anyone having staff wear a face mask under a CAPR?  The issue is air blown out is not filtered so the patient may not be protected?
