Hello,
Dr. @Behrman, Amy gave an outstanding talk at the national AOHP meeting last week in Texas about mandatory flu vaccination and compliance. If you ever get a chance to hear the talk or hear her speak... I recommend it!

Our system has had a mandatory Influenza Policy for several years, basically outlining the guidelines and responsibilities of the employee. All staff are to be compliant with the policy annually by Dec 1.
In the policy, it allows for medical/religious exemptions and currently allow personal declinations; however, if the employee opts out for any reason or not vaccinated When Infection Prevention declares "Flu Season", meaning the hospital and community is reporting increase in number cases, those not vaccinated are required to wear A surgical mask when providing care to patients.

Always interested in what other systems are doing, so thank you for the topic as I have been reviewing the policy with IP and HR.

Starting this flu season we removed the requirement for mandatory flu vaccines- employees will not have to do any exemptions. While there is a huge public health/patient care benefit, the regulatory and political environment no longer provides the support we could rely on the past. We are doing a massive education campaign on the benefits of influenza vaccination and will pay employees $20 to get vaccinated. We did the $20 for many years and it led to 90%+ vaccination rates. We ended it during COVID so we hope it helps encourages continued vaccination.

Good morning.
Our health system had historically allowed employees to opt out of receiving the flu shot and mask.
In 2022 they decided that any new employee would need to be vaccinated against the flu unless there was a medical exemption.
They allowed the employees that were hired prior to 2022 to continue to be able to opt out.
Our head of HR would like to allow employees to opt out and not have it mandated.
EOHS is pushing back with data and enthusiasm.
What is your policy for the flu shot?
Is it mandated for all employees?
Is it mandated for patient facing employees?
Thanks
Charlie
