Upon hire, during new employee orientation (so day 1), EH fit tests all new employees who are identified as needing RFT for the course of their work. We fit test travelers during this opportunity as well so we make sure they are fitted with the respirator we have stocked. As we have 20-30 people starting at each orientation, we use the qualitative testing method so we can get everyone done in the confines of our presentation time.

Annually, the RFT is completed during the employee’s TB screening. TB screening date drives the due date. EH mails a reminder to the employee’s home the month before the due date. Halfway through the month the employee is due, we send an email to the employee and their manager if screening is still not completed reminding them of the due date at the end of the month. During their TB screening visit, we review their job title/location and will perform quantitative RFT as needed.

Employees who fail to complete their annual requirements by the last day of the month in which they are due receive written corrective action which affects their annual merit increase. Employees who still fail to complete their screening after 2 more weeks are suspended without pay until they come up to compliance.

EH performs the fit testing. HR sends out reminders, but it’s the Manager’s responsibility to ensure they get it done.
