According to the CDC and Cal OSHA there is no alternative. No CAPRS can be safely used in the ORs. I know many institutions have work arounds with air going out through the bottom of surgical attire, but unless something happened this year, it is still not recommended.

What are people doing for respiratory protection in the OR  if the staff cannot be fit tested for an N-95?

Therese- which N95 respirator mask do you use in the MRI suite? None of 3Ms’s products work as they all have ferrous metal components.

We use combination of CAPR & PAPRs.  CAPR’s for inpatient, PAPR’s for surgical, Primary care clinics and satellite Urgent Care / ED’s.  N95’s for MRI staff.

Has anyone converted to almost all PAPR use versus N-95s?  Recent DNV surveyor made a suggestion that our organization may want to explore this to almost eliminate the need for fit testing.
