Our valets are not employees but contractors.  They are required to have TB testing and annual flu vaccinations.  Nursing staff is called if a patient requires help or a wheelchair.  Valets do not touch the patients.

Hope this is helpful.

Subject: [MCOH-EH] Valet Service/ assistance into clinics

We have had many discussions about who assists our patients out of cars INTO our outpatient clinics.

Insurance says it is the patient/family responsibility to get into the building, THEN they are our patient.

Insurance says we are putting staff at risk going out to get patients out of cars.  AND if staff drop or hurt the patient or themselves, we are liable.

Receptionists/security have been instructed to provide a wheelchair but NOT to go out to help patients, but to get a nurse to triage the patient in the car if necessary.

Nurse can help with transfer or approve Emergency Room care if they are unable to ambulate.

We DO NOT have greeters, valet or security in clinic entrances.

Any advice?
