We are in the process of revising our post-exposure process. One change we are making is including the consent for post-exposure testing in the admission package. It was already included in the admit package for the Surgery Center, and
will now be included in all hospital admissions.

I am new to Occupational Health nursing. I’d like to see what other hospitals are doing to report and manage exposures such as BBP, Varicella, etc. We have packets that our employees fill out. They are directed to go to Occupational
Health or Supervisor (if after hours), but out packets don’t seem user friendly.
Also, do any of you have patients sign a consent on admit that in the event of employee BBP exposure, they would consent to lab testing. It seems that if we had a consent up front, that would be one less step in the event that an employee
suffers an exposure AND this would be helpful if an exposure occurred during surgery or recovery when a patient is unable to consent.
