Our ID doc sent this out yesterday (see below) and said no recommendations from ACIP yet but can’t imagine there won’t be a change since most are already doing it..
We follow current ACIP recommendations for HCW; 1 dose of Tdap. However if staff have a work related injury (including needlestick or sharps) and more than 5 years since last tetanus booster we give Tdap (only
tetanus vaccine we have) per CDC recommendations.
NJBIZ
(NJ) (1/15, Vecchione) reports the Food and Drug Administration “approved the expanded use of [Sanofi’s] Adacel (Tetanus Toxoid, Reduced Diphtheria Toxoid and Acellular Pertussis (Tdap) Vaccine Adsorbed) to include repeat vaccination to help protect
against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis.” Sanofi provided results of a study on the effectiveness of the vaccine for repeat vaccinations in adults “to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices for their
consideration in future recommendations.”

Hello-
Do any hospitals/med centers have policy on re-immunizing HCWs with Tdap sooner than the usual 10 year cycle? CDC doesn’t seem to indicate the usefulness, but our OB feels that the pertussis immunity wanes within 2 years, so we’re debating
whether we need to consider a policy for re-immunizing, esp in OB and Peds.
Any evidence (literature or expert guidance) to back it up would be appreciated!
Thanks,
David
