We are the same, no walking boots in patient care areas.  Anything that changes gait/balance, proprioception and the difference of floor contact resistance between shoe and boot increase risk for trip/slip/falls and injury to themselves and patients.

I am curious as to what brand of walking boots have the features that you describe?

Thanks

We are revisiting our policy on not allowing walking boots in clinical areas.   The newer ortho boots have a hard covering and are skid resistant.  We always restricted use of the walking boot in our clinical areas but have found that other area healthcare organizations allow use of the boots that meet the safety criteria (skid resistant, covered toes, hard cover in front).

We would still evaluate on a case by case basis, but would like input from other healthcare organizations.   Thank you  JoAnn
