For a Hepatitis C BBPE we do the following:

Check a HCV and SGPT/ALT at three and six months’ post-exposure. Individuals exposed to HCV will receive a test for HCV RNA at two and six weeks’ post-exposure. Any employee who develops HCV will be promptly referred to the appropriate specialist to be evaluated for anti-viral treatment.

I’d like to hear how others are managing post-exposure with a source patient who shows REACTIVE HCV antibody and HCV RNA DETECT/QUANT 200,000+.  Do you typically perform a baseline panel on employee with a repeat in 6 weeks, 4 months, and 6 months.  Other than counseling the patient to practice safe sex and report any symptoms, is there anything else you would recommend?
