It would depend on the route of exposure if it was recordable – and if there was more than first aid.  For example, if it was a mucocutaneous exposure (eyes, nose, mouth, non-intact skin), it would be recordable.

The exposure would not be recordable or reportable as there has been no injury to the employee. Exposure is part of the job, and OSHA doesn’t require recording even for exposures that are non-routine. If prophylaxis or re-vaccination is provided, those measures are intended as protective, not treatment of an injury, so still no OSHA recording indicated.

Hope that helps.

Hello,

Can you please tell me how you would handle a pertussis or Meningitis exposure.

If the employees are treated with prophylaxis, would you report to W/C?  Or go on OSHA log as recordable?

Thank you in advance,

Cathreen
