Wow, hadn’t seen these before. Looks like it would make the mask less effective for source control. I understand it’s probably more comfortable, maybe theoretically noninferior or even better as protection of the wearer. But HCP universal masking also serves as source control in the setting of asymptomatic disease with ongoing widespread community transmission. Blowing your exhaled air out around the edges of the mask seems like kind of a bad idea.
