At our Hospital 15 minutes observation is required for all. we administer the vaccine in a large conference room (with 2 doors at two ends, one-way traffic) at both campuses, after receiving the vaccine, the employee waits in a section near to the exit for 15-minute observation. each person picks up a timer (pre-set for 15-min) and meanwhile the person can register for CDC  monitoring.

We have the minimum of 15 minute wait times, with 30 minutes for people with history of anaphylaxis. We have three areas manned by EMTs so we can get about 800 employees vaccinated each day. So far it has worked well without too much back up in relation to the 15 minutes wait time in the overall administration.

We are giving the vaccine in the main hospital location, about 5 minute walk from ED.

We will start doing second doses by January 24, so we will see if this is true for second doses as well.

We have had some reactions, but no anaphylaxis.

We follow the 15 minute waiting period. It is an on your honor system though. The employees keep their own time and leave when 15 minutes is up.

   Hi Ed,

At our vaccination sites we are doing drive through and have separated an area of the parking lot where people sit for 15 or 30 minutes, depending on risk. Post it notes are affixed to the windshield at the time of immunization which indicate when the clock started, and a different color post it note is used for 30 minutes vs 15. We have staff monitoring the observation area and instruct the vacinee to honk the horn if they need help. They are also told to keep all windows open and the doors unlocked. The weather here in Phoenix, not unlike that in Charleston, allows us to do this without problem.

   Stay safe and Stay healthy,

     1.  We follow the 15 minute wait time for all who are vaccinated
We have 22 slots available in 30-minute increments and have been successful in keeping the flow going. Some people take longer to complete their questionnaire, others arrive late (or early) so the flow has been manageable.
