At our hospital we have Epic for clinical documentation and Agility for EH functions.
Epic is used for WC evals. It is under the break-the-glass protection, but is relatively easy for other specialists to access our records, for example when I send an injury to Ortho, they can review my notes
if they wish (with the audit trail).
For COVID, I made the choice to use Epic for the clinical aspects of testing and clinical clearance. Our lab needed us to enter the lab orders in Epic, so there was a need to respond to the results. I document
a “RTW” assessment but keep it focused on their clinical status (are symptoms resolved, etc). There is a mention of “refer to Agility for employment-related actions” but otherwise I don’t specifically discuss employment stuff in Epic. It’s not a perfect solution,
but I felt it would be useful for the employees to have clinical documentation in case they seek care after COVID recovery.
We double-document quite a bit, unfortunately. Our off work tracking is in Agility, and we make quick templated notes about symptom presentation, test results, and work status. It’s a bit of clicking, but
allows us to be more specific to employment concerns in Agility while keeping the clinical aspects in Epic.
As someone mentioned, Epic is working on an Occ Health module, but they are a few years away from launching it. I have been able to listen in on some of the early discussions, but so far no actual programming
activities have been initiated. Along with the privacy issues mentioned, Epic is going to have to make the records searchable by employer (e.g. pulling a list of all hospital employees compliant with vaccination) before it will ever be truly useful for Occ
Health.

Such a great comment, about the HIPAA / OCR issue. Has anyone been fined by HHS for the HIPAA violation? Does HHS know about this issue?

We use EPIC – got it in 2017, They tried to tell someone it would work for break the glass for employee health, but at that time we all knew better, so had to go with an outside EH software.
We also had issues with it with the Lawson HR software, and have since had to change that as well..
For EH software my favorite two were Meditrax and Agility
Our Experience with EPIC, training and support is very lackluster, so if they tell you they will help and train you with the application please take it with a grain of salt. I know some have
found a way to use it, but remember the HIPAA piece for people to not be able to see in Employees charts…

I would be interested to hear how those who use EPIC, are finding it for Occ Health. I understand they have been developing this application so looking for feedback.

When I was looking for a new system for a nationally based system, the Enterprise Health seemed to have the most appropriate options and the most intuitive structure ( based on SOAP notes), and the fewest
data entry redundancies.
