From an employee health perspective, they may RTW when they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours and respiratory symptoms have significantly improved. If they feel they need evaluation/treatment, then I would refer to their PCM.
And for RSV, I would encourage very strict masking at all times in the facility of they work in OB, Peds, or areas with higher risk patients.

David,
Thank you for sharing, how do you handing the additional results for flu A, B and RSV? Refer them to their healthcare provider for treatment?
Thank you,
Jennifer

We are a smaller institution in a rural setting (which makes a difference in both community transmission as well as perspective of the disease). We accept any positive antigen test. If they tested at home, we don’t ask for proof; if the
employee reports to Employee Health initially, we do the antigen test ourself. If the antigen test is negative, we follow-up with a PCR test (a negative antigen test at home will usually be repeated by our team). Our hospital has three PCR options available,
we generally use the Cepheid because it is resulted in 2-4 hours and it is considered reliable by our ID doc (and it also provides results for flu A and B and RSV in the same test). If the employee happens to not be scheduled to work for at least the next
48 hours, we may do the PCR through the state lab – very reliable but takes 36-48 hours to result due to shipping time.

Hi all,
What is your practice for getting staff tested if they complain of COVID-like symptoms? Do you require a lab test or does a home test work? Do you require proof of the positive test to be submitted to employee health? Any input is welcome.
Thank you!
Sincerely,
Pam Caudill, BSN RN
