We are so excited to welcome people from both sides of the border to our 3rd joint meeting, but the FIRST one being held in-person! We have a full day in-person and online conference on Saturday, Oct 29th preceded by an in-person only pre-conference afternoon/evening on Friday, October 28th, which includes a worksite visit to Richmond Steel Recycling (where everything from paper clips to barges get recycled) and a preconference free evening workshop on chronic pain management

This session will enable participants to:

·         Develop confidence in having difficult conversations related to broadening pain education and treatment options beyond the prescription pad

·         Apply key pharmacological principles including tapering of opioids, initiating substitution therapy, and medication exit strategies

·         Identify community and regional resources and supports including WorkSafeBC programs

 

(b)         Worksite Visit: Richmond Steel Recycling Plant, Mitchell Island

Time: 1:30pm–4:45pm PST

This session will enable participants to:

·         Discuss and describe the potential occupational health hazards at this worksite (scrap metal recycling)

·         Describe methods to assure that workers’ health is maintained

·         Describe potential illness/conditions that would restrict any worker in that environment from working

·         Identify the various levels of the hierarchy of controls (elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment) for this work setting

·         Analyze potential tasks that meet your patient’s current abilities
