We do a somewht similar process as Amy is describing with all team members (TM’s) completing a daily symptom screen on the Clasys app.  If any COVID-like symptoms occur TM’s must complete a Health Report (also part of the claysys app) that instructs them what to do regarding initial work status and testing.  The Occ Med Exposure Team immediately contacts all TM’s who complete a Health Report to assess them and determine next steps in terms of treatment, work status and testing (if based upon the assessment, the TM did not do initial testing but is determined to need it).  We are now testing TM’s for both COVID and Flu A/B via PCR unless the TM had a known work COVID exposure (we have a separate workflow for those exposed at work who are asymptomatic- they can test via the app for COVID only).  We accept a positive COVID antigen test but if the infection is potentially related to a work exposure, due to WC laws in NJ, we must send them for a PCR test to confirm.

The TM’s must contact OMS via the app when they get back their PCR test result and again when they have met the return to work criteria.  I hope this information helps  If needed, you can call or email me directly.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!!  I am so grateful for all of my MCOH colleagues and everything you are doing each and every day!!

Is the app “off the shelf” that can be purchased?

Or is it in house designed?

We still ask all HCP to self-screen for symptoms daily with a secure user-friendly app.  If their responses meet criteria for quarantine and testing, the app notifies them to remain OOW and gives instructions for self-scheduling testing.  (We allow home RATs in most cases but also make free PCRs available in multiple locations)   Those who test positive receive automated instructions on when to RTW.  We do maintain a clinical team that monitors results electronically and contacts HCP who warrant more extended isolation such as that based on self-reported immune status.

WE used to screen all staff for COVID review the results and clear staff to go back to work .  With Omicron the system was overwhelmed and we stopped doing that.  Currently HCWs are asked to screen and test themselves when symptomatic based on communicated crtieria.  Occ Health is no longer involved in the RTW decision.

Subject: [MCOH-EH] Covid Testing

Caution: This message was sent from outside the University of Manitoba.

Throughout covid our employees have been asked to call eohs to review their symptoms and test when appropriate for covid and then manage rtw based on the cdc guidance for hcws.

We are now getting pushback from the same groups that wanted that approach to why call eohs when we need staff and colds are prevalent

My questions

If an employee is sick are they required to contact eohs?

If they have respiratory symptoms / covid symptoms does eohs review, test for covid , covid/ flu and manage rtw

Do you test for covid at all

Do you have employees call eohs at all.

As always

Thank you

Charlie
