We have a joint agreement between the medical school and the health system. IOH provides all of the services listed below for faculty, staff, residents and students.
Our current agreement takes a look back at the past year and assigns the percentage of services used to each entity. That entity then pays that percentage of total expenses to the IOH department. We do also supply worker’s compensation nurse case managers
to the medical school and attend regular claims management meetings with their carrier.
Things have become more complicated lately with opening of satellite medical school branches in other parts of the state. We are currently looking at the agreement
and deciding if we should restructure to a pay for service or pay per member type of arrangement.

In our setting, these services are covered under Medical Center policies, and costs are covered by the Medical Center.
Conversely, in our system, the Medical Center and University use different WC TPAs/carriers, so expenses outside employee health services are handled quite differently
for the 2 groups.
Hope that's helpful and Happy New Year to MCOH! Amy

Quick poll – apologies if previously addressed. I had no need to pay attention to this issue until recently.
For those of you working in University or Hospital employee health services in settings where the University and the medical center are separate corporate entities, who pays for the employee health services needed by University-employed
faculty caring for patients in the medical center? E.g. these:
- preplacement screening
- TB screening
- immunization verification and provision if needed
- respirator clearance, fit testing and training
- blood borne pathogen exposure evaluation, treatment if needed
- annual flu vaccine provision, tracking, enforcement (required)
- COVID vaccine (required)
- FFD coordination (sort of) and referral to EAP
- COVID testing and response, assistance with isolation and quarantine
Thank you!
Marianne
