We are tracking positives through an electronic form that leaders complete when they receive information from their employees that they have tested positive for COVID. Employee Health and Infection Control determine the guidance for what is to be reported. So, if we see an uptick we can ask that they report all employees with symptoms. We also use this form to report all contagious illnesses and/or exposures, that may impact or organization. This allows us to track Flu and other viruses as well.  The electronic reporting allows us to track data by exporting to excel.

We have deferred the cost of testing to the employee and communicated free testing options that remain available in the community. We are experiencing pushback on the testing piece since insurance is no longer providing free tests and the government is no longer providing free in-home tests.

In efforts to treat COVID like all other respiratory illnesses, we have disseminated the responsibility to leaders and employees to return to work safely after educating leaders on return-to-work criteria.

Employee Health is always available to assist with questions.

Good evening - happy to share our current approach in brief:

We use an opt-in self-report system for HCP to report COVID-19 symptoms, exposures, and positive tests (from outside labs or from home tests).  The reports are actively monitored by a small team of CRNPs. Although much of the communication (on isolation, testing, and RTW) is automated, there is a clinician available to answer questions and address unusual situations in real time.   PCR testing is free and easily accessible for employees through a self-scheduling link or with CRNP assistance. We continue to track employee absences due to COVID-19 and to trace contacts when possible.

Subject: [External] [MCOH-EH] Covid

Good morning.

What is your process for employees that are sick with Covid?

We have been following the CDC guidance but using a 5 day, 24 hour symptom free etc. The one for critical staffing even though that has passed.

We are receiving a great deal of push back because of an uptick in our employees testing positive with Covid and perceived staffing angst

Do you require them to call employee health?

If so, what guidance are you following for return to work?

If they are not required how are you managing RTW?

Are you using a self report system without needing a human being to review?

Are you now treating this as any respiratory infection?

As always

Thank you

Charlie
