[MCOH-EH] MCOH-EH Employee Health Organizational Structure

In my company I initially reported to HR but that did not work out as the person really did not understand opportunities or physicians. I now report to the Chief Medical Officer. If that doesn't exist, I agree with Robert that a reported relationship with the CFO or COO might also be a good alternative.
Hope this helps!

In most past occ med jobs I have held, the reporting relationship was to HR. But in one (University of Alberta Hospital) I reported to the VP Finance, and I agree that that was the BEST reporting relationship. HR tends to see occ med/employee health as a cost center and are out to reduce expenses, while the Finance people seem to get our true value as risk reducers who will save money for the organization if they fund it adequately, and they are happy to do so.

I run two employee health programs as the hospital system is mostly independent from the campus side of the University. On the University campus side, we have a direct report to the EVP of Finance which is a really good place to be. On the University Hospital side, we report to an executive director of ambulatory clinics--a nurse (but with executive physician leadership input)-- in Administration. This works pretty well.

Dear List Serv Members:
It is not unusual in industrial settings for occupational health to report up through Risk or Human Resources. I have the idea occupational health (Employee Health) in healthcare frequently reports to Human Resources. Does anyone report through a clinical or nursing department?
Thanks in advance.
