Subject: [aaslforum] Nomination period for I Love My Librarian Award open through Sept. 27

Nomination period for the 2013 Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times I Love My Librarian Award open through Sept. 27

With the beginning of a new school year, now is the perfect time to encourage your library users to nominate you or a fellow school librarian for the 2013 Carnegie Corporation of New York/New York Times I Love My Librarian Award.

The nomination period, open through Sept. 27, provides students, parents, teachers and school administrators the opportunity to nominate a school librarian for the difference he or she makes in the school.  The nomination form is available at ilovelibraries.org/ilovemylibrarian.

The award invites library users to recognize the accomplishments of librarians in public, school, college, community college and university libraries for their efforts to improve the lives of people in their community.

Up to 10 librarians will be selected as winners.  Each will receive a $5,000 cash award, a plaque and a travel stipend to attend an award ceremony and reception in December in New York.

Each nominee must be a librarian with a master’s degree from a program accredited by ALA in library and information studies or a master’s degree with a specialty in school library media from an educational unit accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.  Nominees must be currently working in the United States in a public library, a library at an accredited two- or four-year college or university or at an accredited K-12 school.

A total of 50 librarians have won the award since 2008. In the award’s first five years, library supporters nationwide sent in more than 11,000 nominations for their librarians.
