This session will take the top 10 security, behavior, crime, or emergency-related incidents that occur in libraries and describe the issues, the concerns, and the responses surrounding them. Many of the scenarios will involve challenging or problem-inducing patrons, and others will discuss responses to events that staff might not always know how to deal with properly.

In this workshop, Amy Alessio will show you how to improve the book programs you already have for adults or build new ones from scratch. She'll cover programs for both high and low-tech users and a variety of themes and library settings.

Wet books are the most common collection emergency you might encounter. Mold outbreaks and storm damage are other threats to your collections. Such emergencies may involve only 100 or 200 books or they may involve 1000s. Jane Cullinane, Preservation Librarian at the Connecticut State Library will discuss how to plan for and deal with collection emergencies.
Attendees will learn how to assess risks to their collections, what to include in an emergency response plan and steps for recovery from a collection emergency.
