The titles in this series contain an impressive amount of information but they lacked cohesion. The scope is worldwide and historical; discussion of the

possible origins of the creatures and whether fossils or living animals might be behind the myths are included. Frequent quotations from literature, myths,

and primary sources greatly enhance the text. The abundant illustrations are equally captivating, but the lack of specific source information is unfortunate.

Pronunciation guides would be useful and maps and timelines would also help. Even so, students who are interested in fantasy creatures will enjoy these.
