Hi Melissa,
One of the reasons I wrote my books was to help school librarians, such as you, write a mission statement.

Caveat: I have found that it is the vision statement and related action plans that drives change, not the mission statement.
I recently retired from Joel Barlow High School. This is the mission statement I help write:
The mission of the library media center is to develop students who have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to navigate the sea of information.
Thus, we will provide conditions that foster:
an efficient library media center, flexible and responsive to students' needs
an atmosphere of inquiry, encouraging information access
a program consisting of the skills needed to efficiently and effectively access, extract, synthesize and present information.
a high expectation of student success in using information
a diversity of information technologies to allow for differing learning styles and abilities
Good luck.
