[CASL-L] Hour of Code

This is my third year doing code.org.
I have found that my grade 3-5 can do course 2.  One grade 3 student completed course 2 and I moved him to course 3.
Grade 1-2 need to start at course 1.  Most cannot read well enough and have some difficulty with even course 1.
A couple kids in grade 2 were able to complete course 1 and I moved then to course 2
Kindergarten – first year I am trying this with any kindergarten kids.  The course 1 says ages 4-6 but after the first couple levels, they are not capable of reading the instructions or the feedback comments.  I am going to continue with them and see what happens.
I also found doing the first 2  unplugged activities in the course 1 really helped grade k and 1 understand the ideas of direction and arrows.  The year I didn’t do them, I had to help the kids a lot more.

I'm a newbie LMS, but I've been working with my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders on coding. I found that course 2 is too hard for even my 4th graders. I have them start using course 1 and explain that no one starts video games on level 20; they start on level 1 and learn step by step. All of my students have been satisfied with that explanation and have had a great time with it.

I'd be happy to talk with you in more detail if you'd like.
