[CASL-L] High School LMC Passes

Hi,

Presently students come to our school's LMC during study halls via a pass
written by one of their academic teachers and then signed off on by their
study hall teacher. Unfortunately, some of our student body will teacher
shop (so to speak) to find a staff member who will issue them a pass in
order to meet up with friends and hang out rather than work. Although we
can remedy this by sending the students back to study hall when this
occurs, there has been some thought to changing the system we have in
place for next school year. One idea that has surfaced is to have the
passes issued by the LMC staff rather than an academic teacher. One upside
of this would be that we can better control the amount of students coming
to us during a block. With our current system, there is no way of knowing
how many students will show up for a particular block. This is a challenge
as we have an extremely small LMC for a high school. At full capacity we
can accommodate only 80 students - 30 seated at hard wired computers,
another 30 with laptops at tables, and another 20 on iPads or some other
device working at another section with tables. So, here is my question: Is
there anyone who is currently utilizing a system where the LMC staff are
issuing passes for students to use the library? If so, is there any
insight you can provide me as to the possible pros/cons? Also, is anyone
using another system that is working well for them? Any help would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. :)
