[CASL-L] New iCONN Database Links for July 1, 2015

Everyone:

As announced<http://libguides.ctstatelibrary.org/dld/iconninfo/changes> on April 16, 2015, if your library uses links provided by Auto-Graphics (any links preceded by "rqst") to individual EBSCO and ProQuest databases, you will need to change those links to links furnished by EBSCO and ProQuest by July 1, 2015. The links must include your vendor-assigned unique library ID only if you want to capture usage statistics for your library. The new links are operational now and available in the iCONN Libguide page at http://libguides.ctstatelibrary.org/dld/iconninfo/changes in this box:

The links are in a document that is available at the top of the box linked to above, in Word and in PDF.

Both vendors have developed direct links for iCONN, with customization that gives libraries choices to make. These choices are described below, and in the document itself. To understand the linking choices that you have, please read the descriptions below.

EBSCO links for Libraries Without Proxy Servers.
For libraries that DO NOT want to capture their own usage statistics from EBSCO. These links should be used as is - i.e., they do not require the library's unique Customer ID in the link.  These links will automatically connect a user to the selected resource without first presenting a barcode login screen as long as the user's IP address is recognized (see the document for further details).

These links will compare the computer or device's IP address against a table of IPs of all institutions in CT that have registered their IP addresses with EBSCO for CT; if the computer's IP matches one on that list, the user gains access; if not, EBSCO then compares the computer or device's IP against a list of all known IPs in the state of CT ("geolocation"); if the computer's IP matches any IP on this list, the user gains access; if not, the user will see a bar code login screen with the iCONN.org logo on it. The user must then key in their valid CT public library card number for access. In all cases, the statistical count will go to iCONN's generic account with EBSCO.

EBSCO Links for Libraries Without Proxy Servers
For libraries that DO want to capture their own usage statistics from EBSCO

For the links in this section below, EBSCO requires that you replace the "CUSTID" (shown in red) with your library's Customer ID.  If you do not know what your library's Customer ID is, you can obtain it by contacting EBSCO Technical Support at 800-758-5995.



These links will check the computer or device's IP address against a table of IPs of all institutions in CT that have registered their IP addresses with EBSCO; if the computer's IP matches one in the list, the user gains access; if not, the user will see a login screen with the iCONN.org logo on it that accepts library barcodes when used outside the library. The user must then key in their valid CT public library card number for access. In either case, the statistical count will go to your library's EBSCO account.

EBSCO Links for Libraries With Proxy Servers
EBSCO requires that you replace the "CUSTID" (shown in red) with your library's Customer ID.  If you do not know what your library's Customer ID is, you can obtain it by contacting EBSCO Technical Support at 800-758-5995.



These links are to be used by libraries with proxy servers - these links will not accommodate library barcodes if used apart from a library's proxy server.

ProQuest Links
(IP or proxy  -- for barcode authentication:  call tech support for assistance)
If you do not want usage statistics to accrue to your library account, use the links as they appear in the document; usage statistics will then accrue to the statewide iCONN account.

If you do want usage statistics to accrue to your library account, ProQuest requires that you replace the Account ID numbers in the links with your library's Account ID.  If you do not know what your library's Account ID is, you can obtain it by contacting ProQuest Technical Support at (800) 889-3358 option 1.


The links will check the computer or device's IP address against a table of IPs of all institutions in CT that have registered their IP addresses with ProQuest; if the computer's IP matches one in the list, the user gains access; if not, the user will see a login screen with the iCONN.org logo on it that accepts library barcodes when used outside the library. The user must then key in their valid CT public library card number for access. In either case, the statistical count will go to your library's ProQuest account.


This is a lot of information, I know, but you needn't change the links until July 1. I hope releasing this information this far ahead of the deadline will help you with the decision and link updating process. As always, questions are welcomed.
