[CASL-L] CASL listserv privacy reminder

?This is a reminder that the CASL listserv archives are publicly searchable. They always have been, and will continue to be archived that way. That means only members can post to the listserv, but anyone who does a Google search can find posts to the listserv.

Michelle Kelley, the co-moderator of the LM_NET listserv, which many of us also subscribe to, recently posted a similar reminder on LM_NET. I've excerpted from her post below, all of which are also applicable to CASL_L.

-Reply directly to the original poster when you wish to share information you would prefer others not see. If it is absolutely imperative it not be shared anywhere else, you might consider contacting the member via other means (I have on a few occasions sent an email a member and asked them to call me to discuss a topic. It has worked well.)

-Specifically request your response not be included in a HIT if that is important to you.

-When you compile a HIT, do not include names/locations of respondents unless you state in the TARGET your intent to do so.

-When privacy is a serious matter, we occasionally agree to have a moderator post to the list on your behalf if we feel the situation warrants it.

-Keep in mind, as in all electronic communications (and in this day and age, really even our in-person interactions), that you are at the mercy of those members you communicate with to be mindful of your wishes/privacy. Sometimes, even with the best of intentions, these

get overlooked.

I hope that helps clear some of the issues up as to how our listserv operates. Many thanks to each of you who help keep it vital to our profession.
