[CASL-L] And so it begins -- cell phones in the school library....

Much like Juliann, I do not have a "no cell phone" rule unless the cell phone is cause no a disruption. I fact, I had our school policy specifically written to say that cell phones see aloud in the library at teacher discretion. I enforce no cell phones in a classroom but I can not do my job and police that issue in the library. It's unrealistic.

I would say that if a principal told me I had to enforce a cell phone rule in the library that I simply could not do it without adding a secretary or para who could circulate. It's unrealistic otherwise.

Policy change was worth it. Much better now.

Sent from my iPhone (<- oh, the irony)

I don't care if students are using their phones in the library unless they are listening to music or watching a video and it is loud enough for me to hear.
> Enforcing a no cell phone policy is a thankless job, especially as you mention when some teachers enforce it and others don't. None of us got into this profession to act as police officers. I'm really happy that it is not an issue for the most part, in my school.
