Dawn- if you have time to purchase, Greenhaven has a series of books called
social issues in literature: Editor: Bryfonski Title: Depression in J.D.
Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye.

Teen Health and Wellness is great, Cathy, I agree-
Gale has a series (available in print and ebook) called Novels for
Students. Vol. 1 includes Catcher.
I presently have 4 classes of sophomores reading American novels and
writing about a theme or historical connection - ResearchitCT has been a
terrific help.

Good luck! -Barb
