[CASL-L] cell phone in high schools

Same here (Hi Monica!)  Our kids can use their cell phones during free periods and in the halls, but during class time they are reminded to put them away.  Of course, having 1:1 Chromebooks means they’ve got plenty of distraction right in front of them.  Half of them are using various sites to chat with each other during class from the Chromebooks themselves.  Last year, kids were Skyping during class with friends in other rooms!  (This year, it’s some app called House Party…)

It’s a never-ending struggle!

Hi Kathleen,

Students are allowed to carry their phones throughout the day, but they must be put away (and they are continually reminded to put them away) at the beginning of class.  Most teachers have a cell phone jail where students have to park their phone if they are caught looking at them.
