[CASL-L] Whole town read

I am looking for fiction books that focus on empathy that would be good for a whole town read.  I thought maybe we could do World Book Night, but it appears that they are out of business.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  I would like to also have an author visit.  Thanks, Joan
